Our latest flapper hen party group of flappers in training had a Charleston hen party in Oxford – well near Oxford, Charleston dance in Didcot to be precise, at the rather lovely dance studio there! They were after Charleston dance at home, or should I say at their holiday accommodation in Didcot, but then I enticed them out to a rather lovely dance studio to have a bit more space. These brave ladies had to dance in the 30 degree heat, so no costumes, just cool clothing for their dance class! Well done ladies, we’re so very happy you enjoyed the class!
Here they are indulging some lovely Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers style dance moves in partners… Well, at any self respecting vintage hen party, you’ve just got to get a bit of Fred and Ginger in there, haven’t you!
And here they are doing a little showgirl formation in a circle! Very original for Charleston dance Oxford don’t you know, but our dance teacher Anna does love to throw in some lovely 1920s showgirl dance challenges…
Anna also likes to create dance moves based on animals! This one, I believe is a flamingo, and others that appeared were monkeys (well, didn’t the late great Josephine Baker create a monkey vintage jazz step which is much imitated today? Legs apart in a squat, hips swinging from side to side, one hand tickling the head and the other on the hip and with those famous cross eyes) – animals are such a great inspiration for dance and we like our hens to be creative and think of their own moves!
And here are those hens making use of the barre too!
Choo choo! could this be a Charleston train? I must say that lady is rather daring dancing in her high heels!
More sliding and gliding, what could be more debonair?
Thanks for reading, more posts soon.
Thanks for sending in these photos, Rebecca and friends and we hope the wedding is also swell! Bust some 1920s dance moves on the dance floor for us!
